I didn't think Atlantis was anywhere near as good as Stargate SG-1. But when the human form Replicators turned up (in about season 3, I think it was), I stopped watching it completely. Now that Dr. Weir is gone, there's just no reason to watch.

Well, the final episode of "Stargate: Atlantis" aired last night, if anyone is still interested. I myself stopped watching it regularly after about the second season, and stopped entirely after Elizabeth Weir left (except for the recent episode that Bill Nye the Science Guy was on). At the end, they brought the city back to Earth and landed it in the Pacific Ocean.
Now -- has anyone heard any rumors about the new series, "Stargate Universe"?

Yes, sir. A new series supposedly in the works, set to begin this summer. I for one am a little bit dubious. I think they've already rung about all the blood they can out of this particular turnip. Stargate started off with the Goa'uld, which were extremely powerful villains, and they seem to think they have to top themselves. I shudder to think what kind of new, improved villains they'll have to invent.
On the bright side, they've got a respectable fleet of starships now -- the Odyssey, the Daedalus, the Sun Tzu, and the General Hammond,

I have watched and like some of Star Gate Atlantis. I didn't care for the replicators, or the Genii, but thought Wraith were a formidable adversary! I like the series in spite of it's shortcomings. It ranks far higher than most episodes of the Outer limits !!

At first the Wraith seemed so tough. It took a whole clip of bullets to bring one down, and even then it wasn't dead! And they had those enormous hive ships! But then lo and behold, before long they were taking down the Wraith by the battalion, and the Daedalus was mowing down the hive ships...

I noticed this to about the first contacts with the Wraith being too tough and later being only a little tougher than Humans. I'm wondering why they did this?

It was the same with the Goa'uld if you remember. In "Children of the Gods", Jaffa armor was practically bulletproof! A whole squad of Air Force SPs fired their M-16s at them and only brought down one of Apophis' bodyguards. But by season three, SG-1 was holding off entire battalions!

Mr Atoz. I noticed this to about the Jaffa being virtually invincible going to being cannon fodder and easy pickings for SG1. I also noticed that early on when they went through the star gate they would come out cold. This stopped early on...maybe they found a heat thermostat on the star gate and turned it up from freezing to comfort zone!! ;D

Atlantis had interesting characters, but on the whole I thought they were trying to hard to copy the success of the original. They seemed to think that just having a seemingly invincible enemy, the Wraith, was all they needed. To me, it got boring very quickly.

It seemed to me that it quickly devolved into long shooting matches. That kind of thing is good every now and then, but if you do it too often, it's really dull. I mean, you know the heroes aren't going to be hit by any stray energy blasts unless it's a story point. So it ends up being about as much fun as watching somebody else play a computer game.
