If would have been interesting to explore various ideas associated with religious belief, yes. The problem is that most religious people have to believe in a God who didn't leave that much physical evidence (unless you count the universe itself). The Prophets exist in the wormhole, they are physically detectable to sensors -- scientifically, there is no doubt that they actually do exist. This makes the Bajoran religion probably unique.
