No, I haven't. Maybe I ought to if I can't do it by willpower alone. Fourth week now, feeling the urge stronger and stronger. Nearly broke down during the holiday weekend with the stress of family all over the place. But just knowing I'd have to report failure here kept me from giving in. I may lick this yet!

Say, that sounds like a nice incentive! Maybe you need something to do with your hands. Er... what I mean is when I'm dieting I keep a can of unsalted roasted almonds, and I grab a handful when I feel like snacking.

I might try those almonds, too. I did some research on quitting, but all the advice seems geared towards heavy smokers, not casual smokers like me. At the end of every month, there seems to be a perfect balance between me knowing that nicotene is bad for my health, knowing how bad my mouth will taste in the morning, knowing how sore smoking makes my throat, AND between the sensual pleasure of smoking itself. It's a tug of war, and I've long thought that all I needed was that extra edge to push it over to the right side. Just the thought that I have to come here and report my progress is helping a lot!

Week six, and I'm really starting to feel the need for a smoke. Lately I've been irritable and very easily annoyed. But I think I can do it. The almonds are helping.

Week seven, the physical symptoms are about gone, but the craving is still there. I came very close to just chucking it yesterday and saying "one cigar won't hurt", but your message came just in time. Yes, I have to remember that smoking makes my throat sore, it makes my mouth taste bad in the morning, all the reasons I decided to make this announcement in the first place. Thank you for that!

Well, I did make it through November and December, 9 weeks total -- but then around New Years I celebrated with a cigar. So reset the counters, it's back to scratch. Actually though if I can consistantly keep it to two months between smokes, I would consider that an improvement. Then I could work on three months.
I'm now up to week 4 again.

Very good! Some things are best eased into instead of just taken cold turkey. At least you didn't use that one cigar as an excuse to give up trying!
