If Bush has his way we will be speaking Spanish sooner than you think. He wants to sell the ports and build a freeway from Mexico to Canada. I listen to my Grandpa who watches a lot of CNN. SO if I am wrong feel free to correct this post.

i am not a fan of the media they misrepresent alot of truths for ratings. in fact they should be held accountablefor their actions. there is a difference between freedom of the press and misrepresentation of the facts to decieve the voting population. i group the media with politicians and lawyers kill them all and let god sort them out i say.

I am just worried that we may be in trouble by the time we retire. Will there be SS? Will the US be in super debt? I will just be happy to see my nieces and nephew grow up. But what kind of future or gov do they have to look forward to?

ipersonally beleive social security is a farce from the beginning! everytime you accept a check from a government agency you give up a little freedom. this is only my opinion. we should teach our kids to be self sufficient and not to expect to rely on any government program. our lives go on even if an economy or a nation falls. times can get better or worse but our lives go on. it has happened for millenia. there is no sense in worrying about the future when we are still dealing with the present. this is only my opinion. although my thoughts are fractured there is a basic idea there.

I see what you mean, but I can not help to look to the future. I want to retire and enjoy my latter years. If I even make it that far. I want by nephew to someday play for the MN Wild and enjoy life...

I thought I should add my two pence worth here:
it's interesting that you should speak of not thinking in the future hunny [unless I've misread something here], he-who-has-his-head-in-the-clouds,-thinking-about-our-future.

also, don't be so quick to leap at how bad social security is. For many, like me, it's the only source of income, and now that I'm on a pension, I've got no complaints with Australia's social security system, unless I get stuffed around.

fyi, with our government as it is, workers can be laid off with little warning, and given extra hours to work without the extra pay for their efforts. I see it on these campaign adds on TV about how work is changing, or could be changing. I pay little attention to it, as I don't work, but it's still troubling.

I kinda see where you're getting at though, but being a pensioner I don't entirely agree. Just my two bob's worth, hunny.

Good point. Oh, and believe me, the social security system over here - like anything I guess - is easily abused too; I've seen it on the news where some people ["dole bludgers"] never work at all, and live solely off government payments. Then there are those people who abuse what they get, wasting it on alcohol and cigarrettes or whatever else their poison might be. Also, I've heard of stories of young people getting pregnant just so they can live off the larger wellfare payments you get from having children. The list goes on.

Of course, this is just my opinion from the things I've noticed and heard via rumor or on the news.

I'm guessing it's pretty well much the same over in America.

IMO, anything type of government assistance is easily abused by the minority who cheats the system, which makes it unfair for those who are honest and struggling.
