You think you have bad luck? Joel Ifergan bought a Canadian lottery ticket that matched all the numbers for a $127 million jackpot! The catch is that he bought it just before the 9 p.m. deadline, and while the ticket was printing out, the computer kicked the date stamp over to the next week's drawing. He took it all the way to the Canadian Supreme Court, but there was nothing they could do. They had to rule against him.

You're going to love this one. According to Chuck Shepperd ("News of the Weird"), a woman in Utah has sued HERSELF for the "wrongful death" of her husband, claiming that her negligent driving caused his death. As the executor of her husband's will, she apparently thinks that if she wins, her insurance company will have to pay out a hefty sum to his estate, which she can then claim part of as his next of kin.

My first reaction to that was that I hope the jury finds her guilty and awards something like ten dollars in damages. Then the local district attorney uses that verdict to charge her with manslaughter. But civil trials have a different standard -- they only require a "preponderance of the evidence" whereas criminal trials require "within a reasonable doubt". That was how O. J. Simpson was acquitted for murder but could still be sued for wrongful death.

You can learn some interesting things by reading the closing credits. The next time you're watching "Captain America: The First Avenger", pay attention to the pub scene, right after Cap wins the medal for rescuing the 107th from Hydra's work camp, and he's recruiting his "team". Dum-dum Dugan (Neal McDonough by the way; he played Lieutenant Hawk in Star Trek: First Contact") says, "You need to do one thing for me -- open a tab." So Cap goes to the bar to arrange it and the barman complains, "Where are they putting this?" Take a good look at that skinny barman -- he's the body double they used for the pre-Serum Steve Rogers!

Now I have to watch that again. I love finding all the Easter eggs they hide in movies.
