I'm not sure how many of you have seen it, but Eureka is my favorite series on TV right now. It's in its 3rd season and seems to be going strong. The show is set in modern day Eureka, a secret government-funded city on the west coast of the USA. The premise of the city is after WWII, the government set it up as a premier research and development environment. All the greatest minds in the country and the world were invited to reside there where they could pursue their research with relative autonomy. Now, over 50 years later, the town is populated with highly intelligent and motivated people (I think the average IQ is 150+) who have developed very advanced and often bizarre experiments. The show focuses on the exploits of the town and its average, every-man sheriff Jack Carter (IQ 111) who has to clean up all the messes caused by rogue experiments and crazy scientists. Eureka offers light-hearted weekly adventure with a quirky sense of humor.

I've been watching it sort of off and on. It seemed like a really good idea at first, I just wondered how long the writers could keep up, having to invent new technologies every week without it quickly becoming ridiculous. It definitely does have that quirky sense of humor Noland mentioned, but lately I've been finding the "ridiculous" part starting to take over. Last week they invented something called "baryogenic radiation" emitted by "Element X", which was discovered in the 1940s but which has been lying sealed in an underground city underneath Eureka ever since. See what I mean?
I was sad to see the death of Nathan, though. He and Jack had a great chemistry together, and that was my primary reason for watching it.

I really like Eureka. It's a bit campy and predictable, but entertaining all the same. You just know that what ever huge problem that goes down at Global Dynamics is going to tie in with whatever Jack and Zoe were arguing about that morning. Like I said, predictable and campy, but entertaining.

I like Eureka as well. It's not like Star Trek in that you can't really take it seriously. And was that Julian Bashir on the season premiere?

You know I think it was. I didn't think to read the opening credits, but I'll have to pay more attention.

No, alas, it is not. I watched the opening credits for the name Alexander Siddig and it not appear. He must be that actor from Battlestar Galactica who superficially resembles him.

But in this new season, the main characters ended up in an alternate universe, which they have to get used to.

How tragic. I was just beginning to like the series, too. I suppose audiences today have a much shorter attention span. You have to completely re-write a series every season or two, or they lose interest.
