Riker returns from Risa with a simple handheld game that takes over the ship. It turns out to be not only psychotropically addictive, it somehow exerts a mind control influence over certain people who put it on.
Okay, this entire premise was completely unbelieveable to me. Any game which stimulated the pleasure centers would immediately rouse my alarm, and I can't believe that nobody on the Enterprise (especially Dr. Crusher) got suspicious. And it's even more unbelieveable (as in the similar case of "The Mind's Eye", where Geordi was brainwashed to assassinate a Klingon governor) that people could be conditioned so quickly. Yes, the story took place over the course of about 10 or 12 days I think, but Crusher and Riker disabled Data right at the beginning.
In fact the thing that kept the entire episode from being a complete waste of time was Ensign Robin Lefler and "Lefler's Laws".
1 -- "You can only count on yourself." 17 -- "When all else fails, do it yourself." 36 -- "Go with what works." 46 -- "Life isn't always fair." 91 -- "Always watch your back."

This is one of the first episodes where I started to like Wesley Crusher because he was more grown up and not an annoying part of the story! I think the rules to live by were a good idea! The best part was the end when the alien's game they used to capture the Enterprise D failed and they were captured!! I can still say Captain Picard saying "Tactical analysis Mr Worf." Worf says what they are armed with and says "They are not a threat!" LOL !!
