Thank you. My favorite thing about the original series was Captain Kirk. I just loved to watch the reruns when I was a kid. Kirk was such a great character...

I always love that Kirk did a roll everywhere he went, and everyone else would do like a duck and run.

Is there a real difference between the originals and remastered or is it just a money making gimmick???

Now I look back (having been way too unborn in the sixties to watch it myself), the Original Series was awful, the effects terrible and the atmosphere plasticky. But to be honest, once you get past the 21st century prejudice against bad effects and low budgets, and just watch a couple of episodes to let yourself get into the feel of it, it's fantastic. When you're sitting down and Shatner is 36 years old and strutting around on the TV screen, there's no rubber masks or cardboard sets - you're on the starship Enterprise, and if we didn't have Kirk we wouldn't have any of this.

You have to give them credit for the terrific job they did with what little they had to work with. I think the quality of the stories more than makes up for the limited special effects they had.

I completely agree; it may look cheesy now but in the same way that the very idea of a desktop computer was incredible in the '60s, practically all of the Star Trek plots were original and enthralling, whereas we don't see that because we're used to good stories.

Is there a real difference between the originals and remastered or is it just a money making gimmick??? The stories are exactly the same, of course, but the visual effects have been polished up to bring them more in line with what we're used to today. The planets look more three-dimensional, they have surface features, ice caps, ring systems and so on. The spaceships and combat sequences look more realistic. They add new establishing shots -- for example in "Amok Time", it turns out that Koon-at-kalif-fee arena is on top of a tall crag, with stone arched bridges linking it to nearby mountains, so it looks quite a bit like the place they took Spock in "The Search for Spock" to get his katra restored. I would definitely say they're worth looking at.
