Okay, time to roll up our sleeves and get to the tough questions. Which was the better doctor?

Definitely Crusher. She was experienced, fun and complex; plus, Pulaski treated Data horribly. There was a whole episode or two about his sentience, so there's not really any need to have a regular character being a petaQ towards him about it as well. Not only that, Pulaski seemed to be a sort of remake of Bones McCoy, who was all very well, but in my opinion wasn't what Picard's Enterprise needed. Moreover, once you've got a character for a season, trying to replace her with a new one is asking for trouble.

I guess I would choose Crusher. Although, besides McCoy, the hologram doc was my favorite.

While I don't have anything against Crusher, I liked Pulaski better. Lexi makes a couple of good points. She did start off skeptical about Data, but in time she came to appreciate him. As I remember, at first I also felt a little bit uncertain whether a machine could "really" be sentient, so I could relate to that.

Ah, well I suppose I just threw myself in there with the whole "Sure, I'll accept your 24th century wisdom on 'human' rights, and the like." I wondered about Data, but I realised that, like every fiction, when you partake in it you're allowing it to take you wherever it wants to, and then once the ride's stopped you can pass judgement. It's a sort of contract between a reader and a writer, y'know?
That's just the way I work things, anyway. I just figured that I knew less than Picard did and therefore I'd accept he was right, at least for the time being; like battle tactics. I wouldn't dream of sniffing at Picard's maneuvers because I haven't the faintest idea how to fly a starship xD

The thing is, we have a problem with Data because we know that he's being played by a human actor (Brent Spiner). That ironically makes suspension of disbelief too easy. That was one of the reasons I liked the episode "The Measure of a Man", when Commander Maddox tried to take Data apart. We have one person who constantly tells us Data is a machine, and in order to follow the story, we have to at least consider that point of view as well. By the end of that episode, we are comfortable with the fact that yes, Data is a machine, but he is a sentient machine.
Katherine Pulaski I think did the same thing. She eventually came around to see what we already knew, but following along with her as she came to that realization made Data seem more real for me.

Another thing I like about Pulaski is that you get the impression she has a wide range of interests outside of medicine (even though she still is a top notch doctor -- she did Picard's heart transplant, after all). Beverly Crusher always seemed as if she lived in Sickbay.

Sickbay is a good place for a doctor to hang out in though.

I liked both Docs, but voted for Crusher. There are a lot of good points stated in the previous posts!! After Dr Crusher came back did they ever mention what happened to DR Pulaski?

I don't think they did mention where Pulaski went. They seemed to just forget she ever existed.
