A change to the change? I assume since this was shown during the new Bond flic, that this is the finished project.

I read an article at TrekToday that suggested the new movie took place in an alternate time line! What do you think of that?

Alternate timeline would be stupid, imo...

That's what I thought, too. But you know how popular time travel is these days. And this is the guy who brought us "Lost". I expect he put together a really weird script that wreaks so much havok with the normal Star Trek continuity, he decided to explain it all away by saying it's an alternate time line. But I don't really know. I'm just speculating based on one article I read. I suppose I really shouldn't pre-judge the thing. Just wait until I see it to decide whether I like it or not.

Based on the trailer, it should be exciting to say the least.

Maybe if the movie is successful, we'll see a line of toys and action figures again. That sort of thing is always a good way to generate interest. When I pass through the toy section at Wal-mart, I see rows and rows of Star Wars stuff.

I think Lucas makes more off the toys than the ticket sales!

Yep, I saw an article in USAToday about a new line of Star Trek action figures that is supposed to be out in April. Action figures, communicators, model ships. I still don't like the look of the new "Enterprise", though.

I swear to god I'm tinkling myself in anticipation of this new movie. ;D I can tell just buy the few minutes in the trailers that this movie is going to beat all previous Trek put together.

I just saw a trailer for the new movie, and I took an immediate dislike to the advertising slogan they came up with -- "Forget everything you know". This implies that the movie will be completely, utterly unlike the Star Trek we already know. What made them think this was a good advertising strategy?

When I first heard of the project, I was afraid they were going to transform Uhura into some kind of superhuman Amazon warrior type who is somehow able to dodge lasers and projectile weapons by the simple expedient of turning cartwheels (the trend in scifi has been running towards depicting all women that way lately). I hope I'm wrong about that, too.
